What is Chiffon?

The fine and mostly transparent Chiffon fabric originally got its name from Arabic: "šiff" means transparent fabric.

This is one of the finest and lightest fabrics that is mostly transparent. Chiffon is made by plain weave, also called cloth or taffeta weave.

The warp and weft threads are crossed closely so that the warp threads alternately lie above and below the weft threads. This techniquemakes the top and bottom look identical.
In the 18th century,silk Chiffon was a sign of wealth in Europe.

What makes Chiffon so special?

Chiffon is one of the finest and lightest fabrics made from synthetic or natural fibers. The special manufacturing method gives the fabric its airiness.

How does it feel on the skin?

Chiffon has a supple lightness that feels soft, delicate and fine on the skin. Chiffon is therefore suitable for warmer days, as it falls breezy and is also laid in several layers weigh comparatively little.

Satin used to be very popular as a upholstery fabric because the shimmering fabric enhanced furniture. From the 19th century satin was mainly used for luxurious evening dresses.
